Aim of Intervention

To consolidate the São Tomé and Principe national health system by focusing on basic care and specialised services.

This project has achieved significant results in the improvement of the São Tomé and Principe’s health services by guaranteeing access to primary care, improving the prevention and early treatment of clinical ailments and providing health care at the country’s two hospitals.

It’s worth mentioning the provision of an integrated set of health services (primary, specialised and preventive care) across a network of 30 health units with access to every citizen in the country.

Telemedicine was introduced at the Central Hospital which has enabled remote monitoring and counselling of complex clinical ailments, as well as long-distance training. In this context, an innovative solution was developed called TELEYE which allows eye tests to be carried out from a distance, immediately or at a later date, an essential aid for both the theoretical and practical training of São Tomé and Principe’s health professional.
